STEP 1: Prime ChatGPT
We should always start our conversations with ChatGPT by assigning it a role. Here is the prompt I'll be using to prime ChatGPT with a role so that it knows what we need it to do:
You are a professional direct response copywriter that specializes on short form ads. Over the next few messages, I will educate you on my offer and my ideal customer and you will help me come up with a script for a 1-2 minute short form video ad that I will get voiceover on. Do you understand?
Step 2: Educate ChatGPT On Your Offer
Now, we're going to tell ChatGPT all about our offer so that it knows exactly what to include in our ad. To do that, we'll use this prompt:
Here's some basic questions that I've answered about my offer. Read it and understand it so that you can write a compelling, and high converting ad script I can run on social media. Don't start writing anything yet, just read and understand my offer. 1. What is your offer? [ANSWER] Example: I offer [product/service] that helps [target audience] achieve [specific benefit/outcome]. 2. Who is your target audience? [ANSWER] Example: My target audience is [specific demographic/psychographic group] who struggle with [common challenge]. 3. What specific problem does your offer solve? [ANSWER] Example: The problem my offer solves is [problem] by [how it solves the problem]. 4. What transformation or outcome can customers expect? [ANSWER] Example: Customers can expect to go from [current state] to [desired state]. 5. What proof or credibility backs your offer? [ANSWER] Example: My offer is credible because of [testimonial, case study, expertise, etc.].
Here's an example I came up with:
Step 3: Write the Hook
This might be the most important part - the hook.
If they don't make it past your hook, then the whole ad is pointless.
Start off with this prompt:
Based on the details of my offer that I just provided, help me craft a compelling hook that: 1. Interrupts patterns and stands out in a sea of noise. 2. Speaks directly to my target audience's core desires or pain points. 3. Immediately grabs their attention within the first 3-5 seconds of the ad. 4. Is only 1-2 sentences long. 5. Keeps an open loop - touches on the problem/pain point(s), but does not yet introduce the solution. Give me 10 unique hook ideas to test. Be creative, bold, and customer-focused.
Work with ChatGPT until you have a hook you like best. Let ChatGPT know which hook you are using, so that it knows where to start from for the next part.
Step 4: Make It Hurt
Now we're getting into the body of our script.
Here, we're going to take the main problem our offer addresses, and really twist the knife. We're going to agitate the pain in this problem so that the prospect is primed for the eventual solution - our offer.
This is the prompt:
Craft the 'problem agitation' section of my short-form ad script. This section should: 1. Start where our hook left off. 2. Highlight the main problem my target audience is facing. 3. Dive deep into the emotional and practical impact this problem has on their lives. 4. Use vivid language and relatable examples to intensify the pain point without being overdramatic. 5. Set up my offer as the ultimate solution (but don’t reveal it yet). Based on the details of my offer and ideal customer, write 10 variations of a short problem agitation script (20-30 seconds each). Focus on creating emotional resonance and urgency. Remember our entire script should be 1-2 minutes total.
Work with what it gives you, polish the results, until you get something you like.
Then let ChatGPT know which script you are using, so that it knows where to start from for the next part.
Step 5: Deus Ex Machina
Now it's time to end the script.
We're going to instruct ChatGPT to write it so that our offer comes in as the heroic solution, and to end the script with a 1-sentence CTA. Here's the prompt:
Our task is to write the 'solution and CTA' section of my short-form ad script. This section should: 1. Start where we left off. 2. Introduce my offer as the perfect solution to the problem previously described. 3. Highlight the key benefit or transformation my audience will experience with my offer. 4. Use clear, compelling, and confidence-inspiring language to make the solution feel inevitable and desirable. 5. Conclude with a strong, action-oriented call to action (CTA) that motivates the viewer to take the next step, which is to [CALL TO ACTION]. 6. Write 10 variations of this section, each 20-30 seconds long, ending with a single clear and concise CTA.
Now let's put it all together and see how it comes out:
Not bad!
